Stuart Todd – The whole board of the Champagne growers’ union has resigned, including president Jean-Mary Tarlant, who has spent only two weeks in the job. The mass resignations at the union Syndicat Général des Vignerons de la Champagne (SGV), follow an Extraordinary General Meeting called by a large number of SGV members seeking an explanation on the ousting of former president, Patrick Le Brun, at the end of November.

Le Brun was forced to step down following complaints that his style of leadership had led to members not being consulted in decision-making and not kept properly informed. The SGV, which represents 20,000 growers and cooperatives across the Champagne producing region, will hold new elections in early 2010.
