Italian filmmaker Paolo Casalis and American broadcaster-author Evan Dawson join journalist-author George M. Taber as keynote speakers running workshops on video, photography, writing and oral reporting.

The 2011 European Wine Bloggers’ Conference (EWBC) will be held in the town of Brescia (Lombardia, northern Italy) from October 14 – 16, 2011. This year’s event takes storytelling as its theme: joining keynote speaker George M. Taber will be Italian filmmaker Paolo Casalis and American broadcaster-author Evan Dawson.

Evan Dawson is the author of the best-selling book Summer in a Glass , as well as a contributor, Managing Editor and Finger Lakes editor of the New York Cork Report. He also works as a TV broadcaster for 13 WHAM News This Morning in Rochester, NY. Evan will lead an interactive workshop on Saturday October 15 on improving oral storytelling skills.

Paolo Casalis is a 34 year-old Italian filmmaker whose documentaries tackle environmental and social issues that directly impact our community; he will be the videography keynote speaker at EWBC 2011. Paolo has made three award-winning films, the most recent being Langhe Doc.  Paolo will lead an interactive workshop on videography, taking a small group of participants into Brescia to learn the practical skills of both filmmaking and editing.

George M. Taber was a reporter and editor with Time magazine in the US and Europe for 21 years. He reported on the infamous “Judgment of Paris” tasting where California wines were ranked alongside France’s best; his story about the tasting has been called “the most significant news story ever written about wine”, and in 2005 he wrote a book about the tasting. Taber will speak at EWBC 2011 on the topic of Telling Someone Else’s Story and draw on his many years’ experience to inform and inspire the 200 wine communicator-attendees.

EWBC programme details

The EWBC is the only international event dedicated to the convergence of wine on the web, providing a platform for the global wine community to openly address today’s online communications opportunities.

Organised by Ryan and Gabriella Opaz and Robert McIntosh of social media company Vrazon, this year’s event will consist of several keynote sessions addressing the theme of storytelling and online wine communications, as well as several streams of smaller group sessions to generate and nurture practical discussion. Guest speakers will host these hands-on workshops, which will focus on the four disciplines of video, photography, writing and oral reporting.

The three-day event is structured to encourage the acquisition of skills and information, the exchange of  expertise and experience, and to foster networking opportunities. Each day includes wine tastings and at the end of the conference, delegates have the chance to  visit the vineyards of Franciacorta and other regions, and discover Lombardy’s rich oenological heritage.

About the European Wine Bloggers’ Conference

Founded in 2008 and held annually, the European Wine Bloggers’ Conference is organised by Ryan and Gabriella Opaz and Robert McIntosh of Vrazon (www.vrazon.com), a social media company offering services to the wine industry.
