Wine tasting of Valpolicella wines at Prowein in Germany, an event organized by Meininger Verlag Publishing in collaboration with the Consortium for the Tutelage of Valpolicella Wines and leaded by journalist Richard Grosche. Doing well on the German market with more growth potential.

The wine tasting on 3rd of March in Dűsserldorf is going to be held on the occasion of Prowein, the sector’s most important German fair, whose title is “From Valpolicella to Amarone: a portrait of Italy’s dynamic red wine region”. Twelve wines from as many among the most interesting producers in Valpolicella for a sensory journey through many of the expressions of this territory: from Valpolicella, presented in the Valpantena and Classico Superiore versions, to Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone della Valpolicella.

The event, realized by Meininger Verlag Publishing in collaboration with the Consortium for the Tutelage of Valpolicella Wines, will be headed by journalist Richard Grosche.
“Amarone, Valpolicella and Ripasso are well known wines in Germany”, says Grosche. Valpolicella is obviously the one representing the largest volumes but Ripasso has a strong image although not as widely known as Amarone. “For many wine lovers – says the German journalist – Ripasso della Valpolicella is lighter and more enjoyable to drink than Amarone”.

The German market is a very important outlet for Valpolicella wines. Valpolicella doc is being sold mainly through distribution channels, while Ripasso and Amarone are retailed by specialized dealers and deli shops.

According to Grosche, “Veneto reds have a good growth potential in Germany because they perfectly match the German palate and Amarone – he continues – can head them” also because the consumer “likes the link of a wine to a territory, likes pictures and stories” … and Valpolicella has a lot to tell, not only into the glass.
