Anteprima Amarone has thus conquered the status of privileged showcase to introduce various vintages of the Great Red to the world, proving the role of this internationally celebrated wine that has transformed the appeal of this territory, the cultivation methods, the production and the marketing strategies. This evolution reflected in the physiognomy of wine, today subject of many interpretations that equally express  the character of the five valleys of the Doc and of the producers who inhabit them.

“Anteprima Amarone: history of a successful wine” is the title of this year’s edition that recounts itself in the choice of the setting placed in the loggia at the Gran Guardia palace. The five theme areas trace the main events of the last decade giving the event’s visitors an immediate perception of the reality of the appellation through the number and type of vineyards, the companies that have made Amarone widely known, the organoleptic characteristics which differentiate the five valleys, the harvest techniques and the production techniques. In addition to these there will be an unprecedented comparison among three great Italian reds: Barolo, Brunello and Amarone and their appellations.

Themes that will be treated also in the round table on January 26th, starting at 10 a.m. at the Auditorium of the Gran Guardia palace. Relators will be the President of the Consortium for the Tutelage of Valpolicella Wines Mr. Cristian Marchesini, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Verona Mr. Alessandro Bianchi and the CEO of Verona Fair – Vinitaly Mr. Giovanni Mantovani. First impressions of vintage 2009

Regarding the results of the exploratory tasting carried out, as usual, by a panel of experts gathered by the Consortium in the past days, Vicepresident Mr. Accordini anticipated the main physiognomy of Amarone vintage 2009.

“In view of a bizarre weather trend that was cold in the first part and extremely hot at the moment of harvest – he explains – vintage 2009 saw a decrease of 10% of the picked quantity in comparison to 2008 but the quality was very good resulting in a higher sugar content than 2008, well over the historical average.

Compared with year 2008 – Accordini continues – Amarones 2009 seem to show less variability among the production areas  and to have a higher quality level. A year – he concludes – that even if  characterized by strong taste and richness in flavour doesn’t loose anything, in fact in many cases it gains elegance, energy and dynamism, once more proving the vocation of Valpolicella territories to give wines of unique  and recognizable personality”.
