U.S. gives approval for import of ’06 Brunello wine

(Reuters Life!) – The U.S. has given approval for the iconic Italian wine Brunello di Montalcino, which had been involved in a quality scandal, to be imported into the country.

The U.S. Department of Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), in a statement released last week, said that since Italy had certified the 2006 vintage it would allow the vintage to be sold in the U.S.

Decanter: Chapoutier to release first Alsace wines

Chapoutier is one of the most renowned producers in the Rhone, producing a wide range of biodynamic wines from Crozes Hermitage to Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Berry Bros describes the Chapoutier Sélections Parcellaires as ‘some of the most celebrated and rare wines in the entire Rhône Valley’.

Decanter: Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck sold to EPI

by Adam Lechmere – Champagne Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck have been bought by French company SocietePiper_Heidsieck

Europeenne de Participations Industrielles (EPI), Decanter.com can confirm.
No details have yet been given but Decanter.com can confirm that EPI will not split the company, and there will be no major staff changes.

The deal is reported to be worth €400m. EPI is taking on an inventory of 40m bottles and 800ha of vineyards,

EPI is the holding company of the Descours family, which owns a number of upmarket French clothing brands including JM Weston, François Pinet, children’s clothes firm Bonpoint, and men’s shirt store Alain Figaret.
