David Furer - The United States is soon to have the distinction of hosting the worlds largest and smallest appellations.
California's Happy Canyon is the latest American Viticultural Area (AVA) to be recognised by the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
And its 225ha of vines distributed amongst eight vineyards, only six of which produce wine in commercial quantities, makes it one of the smallest appellations in the world.
James Lawrence - The Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has approved a bill intended to liberalise the state’s wine laws. Sponsored by the Wine Institute, the law will allow winemakers to sell their wines in licensed venues away from the winery.
John Abbott - They were quick to praise a ‘phenomenal’ harvest but Bordeaux winemakers are saying that the big test facing the 2009 vintage will be keeping down alcohol levels. Speaking at today’s Unions des Grands Crus de Bordeaux tastings at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, winemakers said that 2009 was set to be ‘an exceptional vintage.’
