According to Sula Vineyards CEO Rajeev Samant, the demand for fine wine and other luxury goods, particularly from France and Italy, had grown substantially in the last year.

extraordinary mini heatwave that sat over Bordeaux last week.

As most of Western Europe basked in weather more common in June than April, Bordeaux sweltered in temperatures that regularly topped 30 degrees Centigrade.

But winemakers now have another cause for concern: that the sun is bringing the vines on too fast, leaving new buds vulnerable to April frost.

Every visitor to Bordeaux last week remarked on the transformation of the vines from bare forks at the beginning of the week to substantial leaf growth at the end.

Decanter: Bordeaux 2010 – new ‘benchmark’ for high prices

by Adam Lechmere -The indications are that Bordeaux 2010 will be a memorable vintage on both the right and left banks – and that while prices will be higher than last year, Bordeaux lovers will find something at all levels.

Steven Spurrier, Decanter’s consultant editor, suggested that with this vintage and the equally-memorable 2009, a new benchmark will have been set for the cost of the wines at the top level.
