by Chris Mercer – Boisset Family Estates plan to recreate wines from the 19th century at California’s prestigious Buena Vista winery.
The Burgundy-based producer is working on a ‘major restoration’ at Buena Vista, the historic Sonoma winery which it bought from Ascentia Wine Estates in May 2011. Company vice-president Jean-Charles Boisset told Decanter.com he fell in love with Buena Vista, which is in the Carneros AVA, after visiting with his grandparents aged 11.

A Year in Burgundy follows the fortunes of seven producers from bud-break to harvest – in one of the most remarkable vintages of recent times, the 2011. Lalou Bize-Leroy of Maison Leroy, who owns Domaine de la Romanée-Conti along with Aubert de Villaine, features alongside six of her neighbours.
These include Christophe Perrot-Minot of Domaine Perrot-Minot in Morey-Saint-Denis, Michel Morey and Fabienne Coffinet at Dme Morey-Coffinet in Chassagne Montrachet, Bruno Clavelier at Vosne-Romanée and others.

by Jane Anson in Bordeaux – Chateau Pavie’s owner Gerard Perse was ‘overcome with emotion’ as his property’s promotion to St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A was confirmed today. Chateau Pavie and Chateau Angelus are to join Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Ausone at the top of this new Saint Emilion classification.
St Emilion has been mired in bitter controversy since legal challenges were first mounted against the 2006 classification. The full list of this classification is unveiled by appellations body the INAO in Paris today, but official letters arrived at the chateaux this morning.

Eine doppelte Anerkennung für die Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg. Nach mehreren Monaten der Spannung wurde kürzlich das Ergebnis der Klassifizierung 2012 der Appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru bekannt gegeben. Mit Château Canon La Gaffelière und La Mondotte hat Stephan von Neipperg für eine Überraschung gesorgt und feiert einen historischen Doppelerfolg.
Beide Weingüter sind zu „Premiers Grands Crus Classés“ aufgestiegen. Die Klassifizierung von Saint-Emilion, die zum ersten Mal 1955 veröffentlicht wurde, besitzt die Besonderheit, alle zehn Jahre überarbeitet zu werden – im Gegensatz zu derjenigen der Grands Crus Classés aus dem Médoc und aus Sauternes, die seit 1855 unverändert ist.
