Nyetimber in Sussex is one of England’s highest-profile sparkling wine producers. Along with Ridge View, Chapel Down and Camel Valley, it is one of the best-known of the top league of English wine producers. Frequently served up at royal events, it was chosen for the Queen’s barge during the Diamond Jubilee pageant this summer. The estate now has 162ha (400 acres) under vine, planted to the Champagne varieties Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.

by Chris Mercer – France is to host what is being billed as the first international 
competition solely for Grenache wines, to help shed light on a frequently overlooked grape variety.
Grenaches du Monde (Grenaches of the World) is open to producers worldwide and will take place in Perpignan, the capital of France’s Roussillon region, in January 2013. The news comes as the Grenache Association, a partner in the competition, prepares for its third annual Grenache Day celebrations on September 21st.

Rousseau told Decanter.com he had faith in Ng’s desire to revitalise the moribund estate. ‘There are vines missing and pruning has been neglected; we will need to replant. There’s a lot of work to do.’
